Free Speaker Event this Friday

There's a Free Speaker Event this Friday at PSU. The topic is:New Atheism... or New Audience? The presentation will challenge the conventional wisdom about the new movement gaining ground across the country. Center for Inquiry President and CEO Ron Lindsay will argue that the so-called “New Atheism” does not represent a radical departure from “old atheism”—or from secular humanism. Lindsay will assert that the new atheists have received more attention than the old atheists because people in the…See More

Why you left your religion.
I believed the Bible was the word of God. I believed what I was told about evolution not being true. While taking 3 semesters of thermodynamics for my engineering degree, I realized what I was told about evolution going against the 2nd law of thermodynamics was completely not true. "If that is wrong, what else have I been told that was wrong?" From there I started reading and investigating. The Creationism beliefs I had crumbled under the evidence. Next I decided to actually research Christianity and the Bible (instead of just believing and telling people "It's the word of God" yet not really studying it critically). Was disgusted by some of the things in the Bible. Saw that it made more sense that humans created Judaism than it being a real religion. Gave up Christianity and searched for "the real religion". Found Buddhism. Was very happy. Still found of Buddhism, though I don't believe any of its supernatural beliefs (reincarnation, karma). Atheism makes the most rational sense and is non-contradictory.
