Thanks for the friend request , I am really pleased to see more people coming to atheism from Islam. Without religion I think we will find just how much we all have in common and maybe stop back from the edge. I have been very surprised when debating with muslims the arguments for allah are identical to those used by christians yet because of  religion they are two groups opposed to one another.

Thank you for befriending me and I am always her fo you if you need to talk or vent lol.

First of all I would like to commend you for your extreme bravery and for not blindly following the pack.

My ex husbands family was from yemen, they have only been in the states for about 30 yrs, so I can understand what it is like to live and deal with a strict and devoted islamic family.

I will tell you right now that when it comes to muslim family's, even though they are the most hypocritical people they will never grow to accept your disowning islam. They feel that their sins are always ok or forgivable but they will never accept their children going astray. My mother in law once told me its because as a mother not being able to raise her children as muslim is a huge disgrace and sin. Plus she said she needs her children to be pious so they can pray for her and in case she doesn't get to heaven one of her pious children can pick her to go with them. So for their own selfish and ridiculous reasons they will not accept the fact that you left islam even though you may be happier and a much better human being.

Even though many people always think you have to be close with your family, just know that if they are going to be hypocritical and not willing to accept the person that you are, is it really in YOUR best interest to be close with them? Hearing them constantly be negative to you or putting you down is surely going to affect you in horrible ways.

With that being said, your friends are like your family except that you get to pick them and they are not forced upon you.

Since you go to college and you said that not everyone there is a strict muslim and some not at all, I would suggest you start hanging around those people and maybe even have them come over for a study group so your parents can see that just because they are different they are not evil and maybe your family will start getting used to the idea of you being different.

Keep your head up!

oh you should find some person/groups with beliefs like yours there. it will help a lot.
maybe GOOGLE any non-believers groups in your place.

lastly, ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE OF LIVING! hehehehe mwahh:)
