Have you ever participated (or in childhood, been forced to participate) in a religious ritual?

I don't know how to go about explaining who I am in some short blurb, but I can cover basics. I'm a graphic design student (who has changed her major a couple times and whose graduation is long…Continue

I kind of want to frame it.

[Edited 11-21-09, 4:11PM: I realized hours after posting this how inappropriate it was of me to hotwire those images. But! I will provide links.]

I have an easy, convenient, and enjoyable job that unfortunately has a single, glaring flaw - it's like a watering hole for the religious right.

Underneath the coffee bar where I work is a periodicals basket for the The Wall Street Journal, the local paper, and community bulletins. Three days ago during my night shift, I… Continue

The two seconds it takes for them to read the words "think atheist" over your shoulder in a public computer lab.

A complete stranger just walked by, glanced at my screen, made eye contact with me and (rather emphatically) mouthed, "Fuck you."

I could get into a passionate tirade about the poisonous, manipulative ways through which Christianity and religion indoctrinate children with ideas before giving them a proper chance to come up with their own.

I could. But I want to avoid preaching to the choir - or simply complaining, which I think I covered all too well in my last blog entry. I feel a little bit silly about how incensed I got.

About Me:
I like classic rpgs, am fanatical about Elliott Smith, and am awfully horribly terribly bad with money. Art, music, and [good] conversations make me happy.
Why are you here?
I choose to live my life on the basis of fact, ethics, and reason. It would be nice to talk to other people who feel the same way.

I've actually never been! I haven't had much free time to make it Austin since I moved to Texas a couple years ago. I have been trying to found out whether or not the ACA's meetings would be worth the trip. (Free time on the weekends is a precious commodity, lol!)

Lol, I can imagine that your mom must have some stories! A UMHB student used to work at my office last year and the day after Obama was elected, he said that the student body was in a panic because they were convinced that the Antichrist was president. Apparently, groups of girls were walking around hysterically crying and preparing for The Rapture. Eek. Have you ever made it down to the ACA in Austin?

They evolved with us humans and that's what made them the way they are now,I'm glad not to have to have a sabertoothtiger in my room to get a cat I like and live to see it.

I just realized after reading your blog post that you live in San Angelo. I'm taking classes at a community college in Temple, TX and I have heard a few amazing conversations like this. Eavesdropping at a Bible Belt school always pays off, lol! Although sometimes it's really hard not to burst out laughing...
