Dalai Lama leads the way... Beyond Religion: Ethics for the whole world.

The famous and well loved English TV presenter, Parkinson, was once asked partake in a word association game where an interviewer would throw out names of some of the famous people he had met and interviewed over the years. Obviously he was to throw out a single word that he thought best described the personality.  When he was presented with the name of the Dalai Lama his first instinct was "scientist".  Who would have thought?  Had it been the arch bishop of Canterbury or the Pope, surely he…See More

Is santa a christian?

I have a toddler who will most certainly be getting presents from Daddy and Mommy. My guess is that Santa is not Christian, or is this incorrect when one considers St. Nick. Can anyone give me some information or some tips on how we can go about making sure my little one gets presents in or around Christmas time without being a hypocrite? Help

About Me:
I am an "outlierer". For as long as I can remember, I have questioned most things that people take for granted. I am not a rebel, I query, analyse, gather information and query again, before I concur. Always have. I grew up in the midst of apartheid. I can never remember agreeing with or subscribing to it's principles. As a small child, I knew intrinsically that it was wrong, despite what my parents, teachers and the church said. Amazingly one would use the bible to justify apartheid. At 17 I was offered a choice of two years conscription to the SA army or 5 years in jail. I chose the army... and insisted on being a medic non- combatant. You will be pleased to know however, that god was indeed on our side. This was made abundantly clear. It was these experiences as a wee lad that made me question the "leaders" and "teachers". That taught me to speak out against the "true-isms" delivered with authority to the "sheeple". I have forever held onto the notion that right and wrong, good an evil is inside you. It's your thoughts, it's your deeds. It does not lie within the pages of a book. Thus my stance is that one should connect with the open minded, unspoiled child within, for true guidance in this world. You will be kind. You will be loving. You will be compassionate.

Why are you here?
I guess it can get pretty lonely on one's own head. I have followed the site for a while and I feel at home with the tone, decency and intellect displayed by members of the site. Most impressive... The lack of spite and hate impresses me most. If only believers could understand that one can be both atheist and good. Seems to me this is a paradox to believers and they would do well to learn more about us.
Why you left your religion.
I never joined. I like the philosophy of Buddhism which should not really be classed a religion as it is not a theist believe. It is a way of live. I think that all humans can learn a lot from it - both believers and us.
