Keep @Hypochristi in College!

Contributor to Emilyhasbooks & North Carolinian Christi Sevits, needs your support today. She's fallen short in the finances needed to continue her college education, and our help can keep her enrolled. When Christi created this indigogo fundraiser with her father, she needed $3500, but only needs $650 after further paperwork was done at the school. So, I'm writing this, asking for a cause that I believe in. Christi is a double major in English and Russian, and is on the Dean's List with…See More

When In Doubt

So, you find yourself questioning the existence of your god. No matter your religion, that’s pretty frightening. All these years, raised to believe that an all-knowing, all-loving being was out there, somewhere, and that he had a plan for you. That your parents and community knew the ‘Truth.’ Most importantly, you’ve been instructed that when you die -if you followed all the rules, or asked for forgiveness- you’d join your loved ones for eternity in a paradise of sorts.Maybe this started out…See More

""Homophobia" has multiple problems. A lot of what is described as "homophobia" is really "homomisia" (hatred of gays as opposed to fear of or a revulsion to gays). The other problem is with the word "homo" due…"

""Homophobic" as a word to describe hatred (not fear) of gays always bothered the semantic nitpicker in me for that reason.  The phenomenon being described, while bad, isn't described accurately by that word."

Greetings. My name is Emily Dietle and my online handle is emilyhasbooks. I live in Houston, TX and am an organizer for the Houston Atheists.

It is important to have a drive to want to grow as an individual, to not be static or complacent in this short life. Try something new for a change. When an opportunity for a new and potentially positive experience arises, do not hesitate to participate- the mean human lifespan is a mere 69.5 years*.

Recently, I’ve acquired a fondness for zombie genre books and film including Mira Grant’s Newsflesh trilogy. My pastimes include web & image editing, playing Magic the Gathering, camping/hiking, exploring, writing, computer gaming, and of course- reading.
