"I am a parent, and one thing I realized a couple months after my son was born, and I know this is going to sound cold: He is selfish. Of course he is, he is helpless, he doesn't know how to express his needs, or tell us what he wants, but I can…"
"Ok thats a big post, so here goes:
I'll start with your reference to James; God expects believers to work. The faith without works passage is simply saying that "Ok, you say you have faith, but where's the proof?" The…"
"God's power is not his only attribute, though. He is also loving, merciful, just, jealous, righteous, and desiring. Everything He does is also tempered by these, so to answer your question, no the power of evil is not equal to God's power,…"
""It's a cop out. It is an excuse not to use logic. It is the corner stone of why religion remains relevant at all in today's world. People cannot deal with not knowing where they are going. "
i agree. I haven't said…"
"yeah gov't is us really, but that even more makes the point for me. God is not obligated to change the rules, whereas the government is, if we say so. So God's will that much more supersedes our own... besides, there are hardly any perfect…"
"It's not JUST the things i've seen though. That, for me, probably wouldn't be convincing enough by itself. It's the 1st and the 2nd parts together that seal the deal, in my mind.
"As far as your request for empirical…"
"and create evil: I the LORD do all these things
the idea here is not evil as in the entity, or idea, or evil itself, but in the Hebrew, it is more 'god causes bad things' independent incidents, those things which are…"
"No, he is not responsible, in much the same way our government is not responsible for the actions of a serial rapist. The gov't sets rules, but it is up to US to follow them!!! Disobedience of set rules is NOT the responsibility of the…"
"Look, maybe i wasn't clear enough. I am not sad when a BELIEVER dies, because I know where he goes. But I also said MY HEART BREAKS when an unbeliever dies. this is not something i wish on anyone. Of course I feel compassion for fellow men when…"
"I see exactly where you are coming from here. It's a hard thing for me too. The answer could lie in the fact that, in the end, the Judge of all the Earth is righteous and just. In the end, even those condemned will acknowledge that God has…"
"I'm going to answer this as if you actually are interested in the answer.
There are two parts to answering this question. The first is scientific/historical, and the second is emotional/experiential.
I am convinced absolutely…"
"So gods will is random ?
No God's will is determined. From a certain perspective, this makes everything a bit more clear
Or is gods will omnipresent and absolute?
Which is it?
And if our will can supersede gods does that not make us gods…"
"Ah, i didnt realize replies can only go a finite amount of layers, oh well
ok, so not bundy, but the point remains that what a person does is the result of what they decide to do, not a result of what somebody tells them to do, or…"
When I was a child, my father was a good one. scratch that, a great one. He didn't beat me, he didn't harm me. He raised me well, under moderate discipline, and reasonable rules. In short, he was the best dad a person could hope…"
Hey! Welcome to the site and thanks for engaging me!
I know that I can be a lot to handle, so I just wanted to leave a little personal note on your page to say that I'm debating the subject matter, not you personally. You seem like a pretty cool person!
Don't let my aggressiveness annoy you. My writing style is pretty unbiased. I post like that to atheist, Christians, men, women and everyone in between. I promise I'm not picking on you and I promise it's not personal. I just have a lot of questions and most theists can't or won't answer. So when I get one that does? I probably throw a lot of subject matter out all at once. Sorry if I overwhelmed you! I look forward to continuing our conversation!
