Profile Information

Your Religious Status
Atheist, Secular/Nonreligious/Agnostic
About Me:
I'm a student of biomedical engineering. I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge - from trivial factoids to the grand ideas of philosophy. I have an affection for language and therefore appreciate tastefully adorned writings and manner of speech. I am very much reclusive and do not consider it as pathological as the more extroverted of my acquaintances and friends do. During my childhood I came into contact with Catholicism, mostly because this was expected of my parents by my grandmother. I have never really been religious, though. My firmer rejection of religious doctrines came later, when I looked into it more seriously, inspecting arguments and concepts.
Why are you here?
I am here because I am actively following and contributing to debates that have to do with religion. I can be labelled as a secularist and a naturalist. I was interested to see what this community has to offer.
The religion you left
Christian, Was never a part of one

We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances.
~ Rule #1 by Isaac Newton in Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, 1687
'Faith' means not wanting to know what is true.
~ Friedrich Nietzsche in The Antichrist, 1888
Theology is an excellent nurse, but a bad mistress for grown up minds. The essence of religion is inertia; the essence of science is change. It is the function of the one to preserve, it is the function of the other to improve.
~ Winwood Reade in The Martyrdom of Man, 1872
No testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind that its falsehood would be more miraculous than the fact which it endeavours to establish
~ David Hume in An Enquiry concerning Human Understanding, 1748
