I had a somewhat sad conversation with my mother this evening. We were talking about my grandparents, ages 91 and 87. Sadly, they're on their last legs and the family is starting to talk about…Continue

Tyler Lewis replied to MikeLong's discussion 'Should We Fight Patriotism? How?'

Atheism and the military

I'm currently thinking about applying for the Navy's Nurse Candidate Program to get some support finishing school. Is anyone here currently serving? Any former sailors? I'm a little nervous about how often my beliefs (or lack thereof) will come up or be an issue. Anyone have some insight into this?

Why are you here?
I need something to do with my time besides play guitar and study, and that's very difficult when you live in one of the most Christian counties in California.
The religion you left
Christian, Was never a part of one
Why you left your religion.
I never really left anything. My parents were both raised generically Christian, but we never went to church. I asked my mother about this years ago, and she said something pretty profound, "How Christian would I be if I forced you to believe in something for no reason? You're allowed to find your own answers."

So I did.
