Steve M replied to Violet Chartreuse's discussion 'What Should Atheists Do If A Religious War Breaks Out In The US?'Steve, I've been away this past week, so I'm just now getting your comment. What you describe is really just the confidence and overzealousness that people have when they are in groups of like-minded people. They feel it is easier to criticize, condemn, or confront a person in the minority. This is true for all groups -- it's just a human reaction, right or wrong. I know it happens, and it is certainly not always fair.
But we must also remember that disagreement is not always a personal attack, so one can't be too sensitive either. Which is which just boils down the individual behaviors or comments at the time.
For my part, I rarely agree with conservatives on any issue, but whether or not I engage them just depends on the person. If and when a person can clearly explain what they think and why, I'm always willing to listen.
Thanks for commenting back.
Bwambale Robert said… Steve,Thanks, the law on homosexuals has been put onhold and all human rights activists have shown no support of this law, the local christian pastors in support largely of American evangelicals have been fueling all this harshness on gays, however gays in Uganda are living in fear and their human rights are being violated but i know Uganda cant be in isolation from the rest of the world and one time peace for the gays will be realized.
I know the Ugandan government & our president is against homosexuality but in my opinion these folks need to be taught more about Human Rights and the purpose of sex, not all people have it for children, actually most have it for excitement so i hope consenting adults in Uganda have a right to enjoy it no matter what sex male or female.
