46% in England support legal limits on free speech where religion is concerned, poll finds

A new report on identity and immigration has found that nearly half of England's population support legal limits on free speech when religion is concerned, and that support for freedom of expression has fallen significantly since 2011.

A poll of 4,015 people conducted by Populus for the Fear and HOPE 2016…

Seperation of church and state to have and to want.

Disestablishment

One of the primary, long-terms aims of the National Secular Society is the disestablishment of the Church of England. This means separating Church and State, ending the privileged position of the Church of England with the Queen as both Head of the Church and Head of State. The result of this would be that the Church would no longer have privileged input into government but also that government could not…

Hi Stephen,

Nice to see you.

Atheist Nexus, Atheist Universe, and Think Atheist are all on the Ning Social Networking platform. Ning has been having a lot of problems lately. It does not seem to just be atheist websites. Very frustrating.

Hi Stephen, thanks for the welcome. I now live in France and it wasn't until after I moved that I was even aware of bishops in the House of Lords, I find it totally outrageous. It seems to me that the startpoint for any such reforms has to be the proper phrasing and common understanding of census questions relating to religion, because for many years I put C of E despite being an athesit, not realising the import of the statistics gathered and how a throwaway answer to a seemingly innocuous question would be used to twist reality of levels of belief and thus swell the self importance of the church! It is extraordinary that so many people will mobilise to prevent Donal Trump visiting Britain (though convicted rapist Mike Tyson got in some years ago) yet be so apathetic about unelected and unrepresentative blokes in frocks having an influence based on their nonsense books, preferred magician and imaginary friend!
