Newbie here and new (sort of) to atheism

Hello everyone.  As my title suggests, I just joined the site tonight and have recently decided I am, in fact, an atheist.  A little about myself, or maybe a lot depending on how long-winded I get.…Continue

About Me:
Umm...what to tell? I'm a mom to an 11 yr old daughter, married for 12 yrs to an awesome guy. I'm in the process of re-enrolling in college to hopefully finish my bachelor's degree finally. We're a household of animal lovers, and our house is pretty much controlled chaos most days. As pretty much any working parent can probably tell you, my hobbies currently consist of pretty much whatever our daughter is involved in at that time.
Why are you here?
I found this website by linking to it from another site. Don't ask which one it was because I honestly couldn't tell you. We live in what's commonly referred to as "The Bible Belt", small southern town. As a woman born and raised in the New Orleans area, to say I exist in a constant state of "WTF is wrong with you people???" would be putting it mildly. So, to make it short, I'm thrilled to find a place with like-minded people. Hopefully a place I can come to when I absolutely feel the need to rant and rave before I completely lose my cookies on random strangers in Wally-World.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
well, I guess you could say pretty much all of the above. I remember being a child, approximately around the age of 10 or 11, and asking questions of my parents, the elders in the church, the pastor, pretty much any adult that would stand still long enough. The whole thing just never made much sense to me. When my brothers and I would ask questions, such as "why doesn't the bible mention dinosaurs?", we would be met with responses that didn't make sense, even at that young age. Or there was the lovely response of "Don't question God". As an adult, when I have faced difficulty in life, I found myself going back to the church. However, I still have yet to find any answers to my questions, or I should say any that make even the slightest bit of sense. Again, I found myself looking around at the others in the pews, praying and singing hymns with raised hands, and thinking to myself "WTF". I finally came to accept that there really is no hell, no heaven, and when we die we become compost.
