Is it possible to kill in the name of Atheism?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Gary Clouse Apr 9, 2015. 92 Replies

We have all heard the tired arguments trotted about by theists about how Stalin, Pol Pot and Hitler killed people in the name of atheism. These are all wrong, of course, (debunked …Continue

"Unseen, I understand why you (and other people) would want a sound-bite type answer to the question "Do we have free will?" but you have to face that this is not as simple a question as, for example, "Do buildings feel…"

Church marketing fail

I posted this when we were briefly atheistzone so some people may have missed it. It is on a billboard outside a baptist church near where I work:I really think the church are doing themselves no favours here. It seems to suggest that the fact that theories change is a bad thing and the fact that God always stays the same (as the God in the bible) is a good thing. I felt…See More

My fiance is Greek Orthodox and, understandably, she wants to get married in her Greek church. Unfortunately, the church will not allow it because I am not Greek Orthodox.

I am of the opinion they are shooting themselves in the foot here because, again understandably, this has upset my fiance and as a result she is now distancing herself from the church. Surely they would be better to allow the marriage which would result in my fiance and our children attending the church rather than…

Yeah, years ago I got through most of it. Getting lazy in my retirement :-) Once I answered my own questions I started living as if the whole world of philosophy, religion, and beliefs no longer existed. It's been peaceful. Not sure now whether I really want think that hard again. We shall see.
