One of the things I have often thought is an albatross around the neck of most religions are their holy books. Don't most Christians these days, for example, get tired of having the more ridiculous…Continue

Simon Mathews commented on A. T. Heist's blog post 'Non-believers in church'
"I am an atheist and I think that most of the things that go on in church are worthwhile and positive. It's like a huge club. The aspect I don't like about it is, as Peter Boghossian puts it, pretending to know things you don't know.…"

"Anthony, you've got to stop using the word atheist in the wrong context. Plenty of Christians subscribe to the theory of evolution. Their take on it is that the Christian God created the world and the early forms of life and then evolution took…"

"I'm trying to understand this Bob. I'm genuinely interested in this different perspective. When we observe through measurements that Jim is taller than Clive does science play no part in this or if so what is the part that science plays?"

"Could you go into a bit more detail, Bob? I would class my view that a particular painting is "beautiful" as subjective and that Jim is taller than Clive as objective. Is there no difference between those two classes of observation?"

"Anthony, it doesn't matter if you are talking about abiogenesis or evolution because you keep referring to chance and no-one thinks either of these things happened by chance. I agree that Darwin was clueless about abiogenesis and today we still…"

I am of the opinion they are shooting themselves in the foot here because, again understandably, this has upset my fiance and as a result she is now distancing herself from the church. Surely they would be better to allow the marriage which would result in my fiance and our children attending the church rather than…

Yeah, years ago I got through most of it. Getting lazy in my retirement :-) Once I answered my own questions I started living as if the whole world of philosophy, religion, and beliefs no longer existed. It's been peaceful. Not sure now whether I really want think that hard again. We shall see.
