As I was writing my reply, Dave posted his own... There must be a universe where I finished writing my post first... Lol!

It is far-fetched, counter-intuitive, difficult to fathom. And for all practical purposes, a useless idea for daily living. But I think multiverses are more probable than the existence of a god-creator. If a parallel universe was spawned at every p…

Well, it would depend on how many possible parallels there are, Cara. True, there are a nigh-infinite number of possible alternatives that have led each of us to the point we're currently at, from the more gross decisions such as my deciding not to…
December 22, 2009
Personally, I think the idea that we are existing and leading different lives in parallel universes is pretty far-fetched. There may be multiple universes, but I see no reason to think any of them even remotely resembles ours. It seems like the peo…

It's amazing how much can change in a year. 13 months ago our country was as united as I've seen it since 9-11. There was the phenominal aura and feeling that we'd really don't something right. Not only had we elected our first African-American p…

About Me:
What's there to say? I'm a 27 year old gamer, call center manager, and father of 2. I like violent games, violent movies, violent music, Geroge Carlin, Bill Maher and countless other things the (usually religious) zealot du jour said should have turned me into a savage, profane, ADHD-afflicted maniac with no morals and no conscience by now. (ok, maybe they got the profane part right) I'm opinionated, outspoken - maybe sometimes a bit obnoxious - and sick to death of religious dogma and everything that comes with it. I'm also sick of the fact that it's the year 2009 and it's still a-ok to treat an atheist like a second class citizen .

Your result for The Atheist Test...

The Ardent Atheist

The results are in, and it appears that you have scored 78%...

You are an atheist, pure and simple. You think God is just one big lie, and consider religious people to be both annoying and beneath you. Ardent atheists will argue tooth and claw for their position, and have no truck with people that won't listen. You think being an atheist is the only way to lead an honest life, and see no reason to accept the pleas of faith. Ardent atheists are the backbone of atheism. Be proud.

Offending The Offensive

I've come to a conclusion. Far too many atheists are far too willing to just accept the prejudices of religious people as being "their right" and far to unwilling to step up and call bullshit on obvious prejudice and bigotry.

This stems from an argument I had with my girlfriend last night, well not so much a true argument really. Let's call it a heated discussion. Let me give you some background, she is currently attending college online at the University of Phoenix. One of her current courses… Continue

It's Official - Texas Is The New Kansas

Spewing creationist nonsense to children wasn't enough. Teaching that non-science, who's core tenants of faith and ignoring evidence go against everything science stands in science classes in public, government-funded schools just wasn't enough for the fundamentalist quacks in this country. Texas public schools are now required by law to teach the Bible.

Beginning this school year a… Continue

Keith Olbermann Blasts Republicans And "Blue Dog" Democrats On Health Care Reform...

While not in any way directly related to atheism, I felt this was good enough to justify a blog post and not just a forum discussion. For those of you who missed it, last night on Countdown with Keith Olbermann there was one of Keith's occasional "Special Comment" segments, this one regarding the now-stumbling efforts for health care reform in the United States. To call Olbermann's comments "blistering" would be quite an understatement. I'm a big fan of Countdown and make sure to watch whenever… Continue

Stephen King Never Wrote Anything This Terrifying...

Over the weekend I began reading Jeff Sharlat's "The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power." I'm quickly finding out that not only is the media in America spending WAY too little time on this C Street "church" for conservative Christian politicians. They're ignoring the important part of the story.

Forget the scandalous affairs of which so many of it's members are guilty. They are of little… Continue

This Is A Disgrace To The Establishment Clause

I must once again thank Hemant Mehta over at The Friendly Atheist for calling this to attention. If you live in the United States at all and ESPECIALLY Illinois, you need to know about this. In Illinois' recently signed $31 Billion Capital Bill, there is over $11 Million earmarked specifically for religious projects. Yeah, you read that right $11 Million in tax payer dollars set aside for institutions that don't even pay taxes.… Continue

Yeah, confirmation bias and the like can really cause problems, and no one is immune to it. At least we recognize that it is a problem and attempt to correct for it, even if we do it imperfectly.

I do find it amazing how many people have such skewed views of human nature, completely ignoring the parts that inconvenience their idealized goals.

You and I think quite a like. You are an effing genius I must say. I hope that the message reaches many. I sat on a flight with a Persian woman who has me convinced that I need to go there to see it first hand. She told me a story of a young men getting up form their table at a restaurant and eating standing so that she could sit. The humanity they have shown in the last week supports that claim. Viva La Revolucion! Che would be proud.

No worries about the double post. I'm actually happy to see because it doesn't seem to be getting the attention that I think that it should. I'm really hoping that the talking heads hammer it tonight and give it the attention that it deserves. Stern talked about it a bit this morning so at least it got some national exposure.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/20/obama.cabinet.cuts/index.htmlHey, I gotta run and actually go make a living today. If Obama wants to cut 100 mil from the budget, why doesn't he start with the Faith Based Funding? Bet that you'd have something to say about that.
