"This presents an interesting legal question. Title VII prevents discrimination based on religion. One or more students were exempted from work based on religious beliefs. As a result, the remainder of the students were treated differently because…"

"Russell, I was a cradle Catholic waay back when. I have been an outspoken Atheist for decades. I would have screamed 'bloody murder'.  I still think Handel's Messiah is fantastic on a pipe organ, but I'd have bitched about…"

"By now, you've probably already had the exam, but I suggest letting the instructor know your views, if only to help her see that it's opening a can of worms to let one person opt out in this way. Approach it with the idea that she might…"

"If this same student were in a literature course, and refused to read a novel written by a catholic, or were in an art history class and refused to study any piece of art created before the protestant reformation, they would rightly be given a…"

"When my oldest son was in high school  there was a class where the instructor taught the Bible under the guise of literature.  He refused to participate and took a F instead. I'm so proud of my boy."

"I'd have to say something regarding the fact that all those who are "uncomfortable promoting Catholic views" should be exempt, or a new piece for the final ought to be chosen.   I also feel sorry for your classmate. …"

Jennifer Stanley replied to Russell Larden's discussion 'Unfair treatment'
"I'm going to go along with the sentiment of those who say it should at least be brought to the attention of the director. In arts (singing, acting, drawing, etc.), sometimes we have to put our personal beliefs aside and do what is asked of us.…"

"It is unfair, but in my mind the remedy is to revoke the exemption.  That's probably unlikely and I'm not sure you could protest it without stepping on the music director's toes.  The arts express just about every aspect of…"

About Me:
I'm a university music student with a strong passion for truth ;). I love watching terrible movies, so I can make fun of them. I love goofy shows like it's always sunny in philadelphia and community and I am an absolute nut for Penn & Teller. I'm Canadian and proud of it ^u^. I don't know what I really should be writing here =P
Age
19-24
Why are you here?
I come from a city that used to hold the world record for most church's, so the I've always been considered a minority. I was picked on from an early age by other kids who went to church. They asked me why I didn't go to church and explained to me that god created everything. I asked how they knew that and they all just said it was what their parents told them. I asked if they had any proof and from then on I was picked on and singled out. I eventually found the term agnostic, which I used to protect myself. As long as I wasn't directly telling them they were stupid, they left me alone. Recently I found the God Delusion, and I now have what it takes to defend myself from ignorance. I am now very comfortable and proud to tell people what I am and always really have been, an Atheist ^u^.
The religion you left
Was never a part of one
Why you left your religion.
I was agnostic. I just had to jump off the fence =P
