"That is an interesting point. I am sure your cat reacts far differently to seeing itself in the mirror than it would if it saw a completely different cat on the other side of a pane of glass in a small sound proof enclosure."

Rocky john replied to Roy Plisko's discussion 'What is the Destiny of Intelligence?'
"I feel the mirror test is a highly anthropocentric way to test for consciousness. The test is designed around the visual senses, which humans tend to focus on as being important due to our sense of  hearing and smell being abysmal. The problem…"

Rocky john replied to Simon Mathews's discussion 'Is free will compatible with determinism?'
"The fallacy of composition was exactly the concept I was looking for. It is the converse of the fallacy of division. I don't think epiphenomenon and emergence are exactly interchangeable. Especially if you mean this by epiphenomenon. You can…"

Rocky john replied to Simon Mathews's discussion 'Is free will compatible with determinism?'
"Playing devils advocate here but is it not  possible that we are making a reverse fallacy of division? Now a fallacy of division would be if I said that ' because I have free will then everything which constitutes "me",including…"

Rocky john replied to Unseen's discussion 'How should Israel deal with the missile onslaught?'
"Unseen, exactly where can Hamas base itself in the Gaza strip where it is not near civilians? Gaza is one of the most overcrowded places on earth. Almost two million people are crammed into a strip of land just 25 miles long and between three and a…"

Why you left your religion.
Well at about the age of 15 or so i had a few minor questions regarding my religion and the priests could not answer them to my satisfaction. so i decided to sit dow and read the bible to see gods own word for myself. A few chapters in i already began to have doubts, and a few days later when i had finished reading that damned book i realised i only had 2 possible options that was to either believe what i had read and therefor become a malthiest, or to throw the whole lot out and become an atheist

The most important picture ever taken

Posted on August 3, 2011 at 2:53pm 5 Comments

And what they saw in that insignificantly  tiny  portion of empty sky was breath taking, over 10 000 galaxies, each on containing hundreds of billions of stars. every single point  and…

The picture you posted has been a source of humility and passion for me ever since I found it years go. I have tried time and again to explain the sheer magnitude of what it represents, with little luck. I have what most would consider a 'spiritual' experience when I sit and think about what that picture represents. Thank you for sharing it; I haven't looked at it in awhile. :)
