About Me:
My name is Rhiannon, and I have been an out agnostic atheist for five years now. I told my parents when I was fifteen, and they immediately rejected the idea completely and shut me out mentally. It's been hard to communicate with them about my lack of faith, as they are devout Catholics and are hard to speak to about the subject. I always try to be as respectful and intelligent as I can about religion, but sometimes it's hard for me to hold back as far as my opinion goes. I can get a little sarcastic and cynical, but I'd rather speak out than shut up.
Why are you here?
I feel it crucial to show the world how the Christian and other churches are deluding and indoctrinating today's youth about what is right and wrong, and making them feel ashamed and alone about their natural urges and desires as human beings. I feel that morals are self-based, and should be based on your own inherent good, not by some fairy-tale book written ages ago. Something needs to be done, and sitting around just talking about the nonexistence of God with your friends isn't going to make a difference. Get out there and say something.
The religion you left
Christian, Catholic
Why you left your religion.
Every time I talked to someone in any church I visited or was a part of about the Bible and its obvious contradictions, they supported their "facts" with the Bible. Hello? You can't use the Bible to prove the Bible correct. I was being told that I was selfish and wrong for feeling what I was feeling as an adolescent and young teenager, and was ashamed at myself anytime someone from the Church spoke to me about my faith. I never felt like I had any real faith at all, just fear of the sadistic tyrant that is "our all loving, all seeing, and all powerful God".

A Word on Comfort

Posted on July 25, 2009 at 8:00am 7 Comments

We all like to be comfortable, don't we? We enjoy the luxuries of everyday life, whether it's the expensive company car or the gourmet food in your pantry. Everyone likes to be comfortable.

Yet, as it is, you can't always have the best of everything, and that stands true for most aspects of life. Sometimes, you have to ride the bus because that company car broke down, and sometimes, you have to buy generic. That's just the way it is.

Now, what do most people do when things aren't… Continue

I was looking around the great big Internet and was refreshed and pleased when I found Think Atheist. You guys really seem to be making a statement, and it's well appreciated, I'm sure.
I plan to update this blog weekly, if possible, and I hope everyone will visit and comment.

Not only did I like what you had to say, but I really enjoyed the way you said it. Simple stories of everyday occurrences like that, told well, are very transcending in their message. Your post on the cut finger was delightful, entertaining, and conveyed a deeper message beyond the story. I hope you continue to post here.

I'd like to second what Nelson said. I'm a high school science teacher and always find it refreshing and exciting when I meet a young person who is smart enough to see through the indoctrination of religion. Well done, you should be proud of yourself. I look forward to seeing you around T/A.
