About Me:
I have a B.S in environmental sciences from The University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, and I'm currently working towards a degree in electrical engineering in hopes of someday fulfilling my dream of designing Green Technology. I'm a hard core environmentalist and I practice what I preach. I have run 14 marathons (10 regular and 3 ultras (a 50k and two 50 milers)). and an IronMan triathlon (2.4 miles swimming, 112 miles biking and 26.2 miles running) . I have a mild form of autism known as Asperger syndrome, and am somewhat outspoken on issues facing the autistic community, I do not consider myself disabled and believe that the hardships I faced from being on the autism spectrum have made me a better person. I'm a philosophical naturalist and have never understood religion. I tend to freak a lot of people out.
Why are you here?

Why you left your religion.
even as a 4 year old religion did not make sense to me
I never was able to believe in the supernatural, partially the concept of life after death and the more I thought about it the more ridicules it seemed

coming out godless; my journey form good Catholic girl to Heretic

I finally decided to write my story of how this could have happened. I remember having my first doubts about religion when I was 5, my cousin who was the same age as me had just died of a brain tumor and my grandma went into this elaborate story about how she was flying over grass and trees on her way to heaven, which was a beautiful place that was supposedly perfect. the first thing I remember thinking after this story was, how can something be perfect when everyone has a different idea of… Continue

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for joining my Origins group.

I'm familiar with Aspergers syndrome and know somebody who has it. He has a piercing wit and says things that reveal alternative views of things that others might not ever consider on their own. People who understand him adore him.
