"Brilliant point.  Comfort-seekers have no place in serious religious discussion.  I personally suspect that, as life forms, we are alone, but that what we end up deciding that we ought to do will be in accordance with something horrible…"

"Thanks, arch. I searched Wikipedia on both Hitler and Stalin's connections with religion. Both were brought up Catholics but quit early. Stalin briefly considered studying for the priesthood. I didn't find Hitler's "special…"

"The way to answer arguments is by claiming the the universe is both stochastic and eternal?  I don't think that those ideas are safe, i.e. they could turn out to be dead wrong, from what I can tell.  I do like the part about natural…"

"Thanks for the link, arch; the few theistic arguments I've heard in recent years haven't merited any effort and I've become rusty. Twelve hours ago, a theist gave me some exercise. He claimed that atheists are responsible for the 20th…"

I'm not opposed to all versions of theism, but accurate models can all be entirely described using non-theistic terminology, and they are always less dangerous that way. Also, there's nothing actively transpiring beyond the universe.

Why are you here?
One of the atheist nexus members recommended this place after the chat room went down. Oh, and also the whole thing is inevitable, but that explanation is strictly complimentary in all extant cases.

Why you left your religion.
Most of the core values are based on faulty logic. Even though I didn't worry that the religion would hurt me, my membership constituted endorsement which could have influenced vulnerable individuals.
