Welcome, Boogatheist!

Profile Information

Your Religious Status
Atheist
About Me:
I am an ESL teacher at an Islamic high school in Indonesia. Atheism is illegal here and I could lose my job and even possibly get black listed from other schools if I was open about my beliefs or lack thereof. So I play the part of Muslim because it helps smooth the road. I don't pray, and when I am asked to, which is frequently, I politely refuse due to time constraints. Ham sandwiches are one of my favorite things, and my Muslim wife gets angry at me when I eat them during Ramadan. I've yet to burst into flames or get struck by lightening, nor had her loving god exposed me to its furious wrath so I'll continue eating them.

Why are you here?
To meet and hopefully get others from Indonesia to question their religious beliefs

Was never a part of one
Why you left your religion.
Fortunately for me I was never part of any religion. I flirted with a few at a few low points in my life, but nothing ever really held. The willful delusion never had time to take root.

JOB 2.0: Following the precedence…

His parents hoped his name would predestine him for a successful life of consistent but hard work. Job didn’t disappoint. Job worked hard his entire life and developed a thriving mega farm, situated on roughly 150 acres of very fertile land. Over 700 donkeys (mainly for export to Grand Canyon Tours Limited and Mexican Farmer Exchange Services), 535 yoke of oxen, and around 7121 sheep occupied his expansive stables. The sheep were mainly used for wool, French restaurants, and lonely Montana…

RIDING A DINASAUR TO WORK ON A LAZY FRIDAY AFTERNOON

Posted on June 15, 2012 at 7:56pm 4 Comments

The stegosaurus carefully plodded its way among the rocky countryside. Its passengers, riding uncomfortably on its bony back, were hungry and in need of sleep, so were pushing their giant mount at a fairly quicker pace than usual. Slowly, as the distant horse manger drew near, the stegosaurus came to a stop and its two passengers, one pregnant and the other apparently her husband, gently stepped off.…

God is an Atheist

“And if there were a God, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt his existence.” Bertrand Russell

“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours”    Richard Dawkins

I was thinking about the qualities God must have. The Abrahamic god…

Legally backed/obliged faith

Posted on July 29, 2011 at 8:00pm 0 Comments

Here in the Islamic wacky land of Indonesia the devout are everywhere. Running too and fro  humming, mumbling, beating drums, reciting, and handing coins to beggars for everyone to see. Obsessing over Islamic rules first stated in popular hearsay manuals like Bhukari's hadith, all the while turning a blind eye to the playing out of such social taboos as homosexuality, kissing, drinking and basically any western "too free society" influence on TV daily, or on the streets of Jakarta…
