This Friday, I'll venture off into the mountains with my mother-in-law, 2 sister-in-laws, and a grandmother-in-law for a fun filled weekend cottage getaway. I love them all very much and genuinely…Continue

Veda (My 4 Yr Old) Loves the Hell Out of God Questions Lately

Earlier, she went a little too quiet for a little too long. All parents know this is somewhat suspect.. so... I set out to find my mischievous child. She was sitting, wide-eyed, in the hallway and…Continue

People of Faith Who, Although Genuinely Acting Out of Loving Kindness, Still Perpetuate the Ills of God's Influence

Reading the paper this morning, I came across a morsel of local news that embodies one of the lesser contemplated ills of a god-driven society. In a nutsell, a commercial satellite dish van and a…Continue

Praying for a Mourning Mama Is Like Pissing in the Wind

My twin sister lost her baby; Friday night: she suffered a late term miscarriage.  I received the gut wrenching, 'something is wrong, I'm hurting" call at about 3:30 a.m. and so I met her at the hospital, where they were expecting her (as I'd called ahead). She was admitted, hooked up to a monitor, and (big sigh of relief) there was a heartbeat. We enjoyed approximately 20 minutes of blissful peace of mind before, lo and behold, her water broke. Ultimately, there IS no recourse after this.…See More

"Its offensive: how a couple, mourning the loss of their baby, can be so inexhaustibly pursued by christian soldiers; scouting for recruits."

God Killed My Mother-in-Law (Figuratively, but Still...)

My mother-in-law has, once again, hopped on the religious roller coaster and has been re-rebaptised. When my husband was very small, she and his father answered god's calling and flew to Haiti to serve as missionaries for several months. My husband can recall forgetting what his parents looked like. Fast forward a couple of years: he can then recall their drunken, happy faces, white lines on dinner plates, and home-made honey bear bongs. Fast forward a few years after THAT: she's armed with her…See More

This vulgar snippet is compliments of my mother-in-law's 2nd baptism this past Sunday. She was among 1,003 men, women, and children who participated in the event. O_o It's disturbing as hell, really.

About Me:
I was born and raised in the bible thumping, holy rolling south and am now raising my daughter here too. I've never subscribed to the christian faith. I'm largely buddhist and have found that the intellectual aspects of atheism coalesce rather well with my faith; as I'm not required to sacrifice knowledge for faith. Loose Reverie: I Will Never Be a Believer

Posted on June 22, 2012 at 9:30pm 0 Comments

My earliest memory of church is not a terrible one, necessarily, as there was no physical or sexual abuse, no momentous 'aha!' moment.. no bells and whistles.. nothing worthy of a book writing.. but rather a simple question, on my part, whilst gluing a little paper 'Noah' to a small lunch bag, and the unsavory answer I was given. "Why were there no dinosaurs on the ark?", I'd asked.…

Loose Reverie.. Lifelong Disbelief

Posted on June 9, 2012 at 6:30pm 1 Comment

..i'll refine.. this is just a stream of thought that i don't wish to lose.

I have never believed in "God". Even as a child, I had questions that no one could answer.. and I took fierce offense to things witnessed in small town, bible thumping, holy rolling USA that my young mind couldn't justify and that my heart just couldn't bear..all in the name of the lord or within the unnerving walls of 'his' house.. (this terminology always crept me out too). Still, the odious chore was…
