- Church doctrine didn't square with other people's religious experience or with reality and history. In fact, it didn't square with what I got out of a thorough reading of the scripture the doctrine was allegedly based on. Specifically, the church's teaching on the nature of salvation and the exclusivity of Christ didn't square with existing scripture.
