Dusting this group off and discussing pests!

Wow, I can't believe it's already late spring and this place is dead! C'mon, folks! Let's get dirty!Right, so someone was asking about Florida pest control. Rabbits, aphids, caterpillars and gators, oh my! (I actually made up the gators part. If that's your garden pest, you might want to look at planting on higher ground!) So what's your trick?Mine is an arsenal of garlic-hot pepper spray, thoughtful garden lay-out and a balanced ecology. I've got slugs around here, so of course I have ducks!…See More

...and now I wait to die.

6 liters of 100% pure cranberry juice and an entire pack of  Cystex later, I'm still pissing blood.

It's been four days.

I'm not going to be seeing a doctor anytime soon because .... 'Ermerica!

But that's beside the point.

Generally when I'm on my own for healthcare, I order aquarium antibiotics online. They go through more purity testing than the livestock stuff I have for my homestead. I can't wait another three days for them to…

Let's get something straight.

Not everyone that's perceived as a bitch is actually unhappy.

Let's get another thing straight.

I'm a bitch.

Knowing just what to say and when to say it is a talent of mine.

If the words I type piss you off, usually that was my exact intention. Thanks for playing.

Please don't mistake my mockery for misery. I'm not unhappy, in fact, I'm  laughing at you right…

Atheism to me defines only what I don't believe in.

Figuring out what I do? What I stand for? The conclusions I come to based on my observation of human behavior?

Slightly more complicated.

Ok. Much more complicated.

We don't get a user manual. We don't have dogma to follow or holy men to tell us what to do or how to think. As an American, I'm sort of used to that and looking to fill a void.

With my OWN conclusions!

How dare…

Dear TA,

You have been with me through the Taiwanese underwater earthquake that killed my internet for over a month on the island of Koh Samui.

You have been with me when I literally had to scale a godamned mountain in Vietnam to get cell phone coverage to upload contributions to this site.

You have been with me through protests in Phuket, Songkran in Pattaya and schooling in Scotland.

So before we get started on this new journey, how about you just tell me what works out… Continue

Hey, not sure if you saw in Nelson's Sunday School Blog, but HERE is a great article on the brain and crime.  Very interesting and lengthy.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

My pleasure, Misty!  I thought you might like it!  How far have you got in your research on religious experience and the brain?  I think there is a distinct connection between 'answered prayers' and peoples' psychological ability to connect things that aren't at all connected, even in the slightest possible ways.  I hope that's clear, haha!

I saw a comment you posted on Ethan Lofing's blog, and you mentioned religion and the brain.  A little off topic, but this is a great article about how religious experiences actually atrophy the hippocampal region of the brain.  Great article.

Scientific American - Religious Experiences Shrink Part of the Brain

I'm a member of the Atheist Writers group here--have contributed quite a lot to discussions there, in fact; you might have a look, if you're interested.

I earned an MFA in Fiction from the University of California at Irvine and an AB in English Composition from Syracuse University, and I was a Wallace Stegner Fellow in fiction at Stanford a while ago.

My first novel, HARD FEELINGS (Atheneum, 1977), was an American Library Association Best Book in 1977 and a 20th Century-Fox film release in 1982. My published work includes four other novels, MULDOON (Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1982), COLD COMFORT (Harmony Books, 2001), THE FIFTH SEASON (Three Rivers Press, 2005), and the third novel in my Hector Bellevance literary suspense series, THE ERRAND BOY (Three Rivers Press).  My home page here included the images of the jacket art for those books.  I've also published essays and book reviews in a variety of publications, including "The New York Times Sunday Magazine," "The Los Angeles Times Book Review," and "Paris Review."

Two of my screenplay adaptations have been independently produced and released internationally as feature-length films, "Where the Rivers Flow North," starring Rip Torn and Michael J. Fox, and "A Stranger in the Kingdom," with an ensemble cast including Ernie Hudson and Martin Sheen.

My current project is a YA post-cataclysmic epic set in a much-diminished, post-oil, post-climate-change America now governed by evangelical Nazis--the gels--who are the book's villains.  If this book gets any attention at all, it could be pretty controversial.  It's sort of an American GOLDEN COMPASS, but edgier, with overtones of THE ROAD.  My agent likes it.  When it's ready to show, we'll just have to find a publisher who's willing to invest enough in the book to get it out there.

Misty... saw your question about Google Chrome in Technophiles. DEFINITELY TRY IT!! I downloaded it out of curiousity and it showed incredible speed and easy usability... as well as a FAR lower risk of malware and cookie invasions than IE. It's Great! ^_^

Greetings Misty - So sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have yet to post my Halloween party pictures... (So much to do and so little time.) The party was a success, but there is a story to be told about what happened that I will post along with my pictures, soon. I see you are planning your Thanksgiving dinner. That curry sauce sounds delish, have you posted the recipe yet? I have begun to post recipes for a Vegan/Vegetarian un-turkey day. You should check it out for some ideas. Personally, I always enjoyed the 'side' dishes far more than the turkey. So what costume did you finally decide on for Halloween? Curious minds want to know.... Any snapshots? Looks like I'm going to start a Winter Solstice group very soon. Hopefully, Jean Marie will be my partner in this venture (?) It's a big job to keep it up and going if no one bothers to add discussions or even comment.... Yet, we do NEED this group on T/A, don't you agree? Be well, and come visit once in a while : )
