"I do believe this was done in poor taste and even seems cruel at that point and time. I don't see much positivity in some of the statements made here. My daughter died 5 years ago at 34, I felt like dying and it has taken a long time for the…"
I was not introduced to relegion until I was 10 years old. At ten, I went to a Catholic church and thought that it was pretty peaceful and maybe if I went to church my mother would quit drinking. Well she did not stop drinking then I started. I didn't drink too long, quit and then my mother quit.
I would go to mass now and then and then I met my husband who is a Catholic and we got married in the church (in fact I met him at a wedding where he was the priest performing the ceremony ( a very good story ). WE went to church, had three children who we also took to church. Finally, in my early thirties I told my husband that I was leaving the church and could just not be happy believing in a god.
My children also stopped going as we let them have a choice. They were 12, 9 and 8 yrs old. Today I say I am a happy atheist and my husband is still Catholic and we have just celebrated our 37th anniversity.
P.S. It was just not as that in the beginning as after I left the church I went to a Buddhist community for a while and then went to my tradional native ceremonies. After attending and really thinking about it, I just stopped going to all spiritual sources.
Why are you here?
I find the questions interesting and like to read the responses. I am an atheist and sometimes find that some people say they are but have reservations. In my life I don't know that many atheists so I like to read others stories, etc.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
Could not believe there was a God nor higher power or a Creator.
