The QWERTY keyboard was designed by a man (C. Latham Sholes to be specific). I could stop there and say that so was God and that would do. But that actually wasn't my point. But it IS a good one!!

I support Chelsea and my Mecca is Stamford Bridge. I made my pilgrimage when I lived in London and it was the site of much adoration.
Each week, all over the world, people go to these sites and chant, sing, stand up, sit down, praise and denouce as a group. After the 'ceremony' they will discuss the events of the day and what needs to be done to make things better for their chosen idols.

Dan Ariely on our buggy moral code

In this Dan goes through reasons why we might cheat and what influences how much we cheat.
2 things struck me about it.
1) The 10 Commantments had the same effect as a fictitious Honour code. Which suggests that we will honour an external moral guideline, but it does not need to be divine to be valued.
2) The fudge factor he spoke of was the amound of dissonance beween what you… Continue

Why is it that using your brain has become a thing to be embarassed about? What is wrong with people showing intelligence and expressing intellectual points of view?

I am an atheist and I have been for some time. I am a ration al person and I find it very hard to discuss religion with people as I find myself dealing with agressive people. I try not to be confromtational or agressive myself but I often wonder are people getting angry with me as I represent their doubts and fears.
Do that see in me what they deep down know to be true.
