- I was raised in a conservative Lutheran church that adhered to the basic doctrines of the Bible's infallibility, Christ's divinity, and original sin. Through friends I was exposed to other, more fundamental groups like the Southern Baptists and Pentecostals. At the age of 21, I went to India as a missionary and traveled around the country for 2 months. After I returned, I found I had more questions about God than I could find answers. My faith gradually crumbled until I left the church at 22 and identified as an atheist shortly thereafter.

My grandmother called tonight. It was a little bit of a surprise, but we (my parents and I) were glad to hear from her. My parents and Grandma talked about the weather and this and that.
