About Me:
I was raised in a conservative Lutheran church that adhered to the basic doctrines of the Bible's infallibility, Christ's divinity, and original sin. Through friends I was exposed to other, more fundamental groups like the Southern Baptists and Pentecostals. At the age of 21, I went to India as a missionary and traveled around the country for 2 months. After I returned, I found I had more questions about God than I could find answers. My faith gradually crumbled until I left the church at 22 and identified as an atheist shortly thereafter.

Very nice to meet you as well! It's pretty awesome now that there are so many different ways for atheists to connect now. Thank you, Al Gore, for inventing the interweb! :)

Yeah, I just started commenting on the friendly atheist forum. Thanks for adding me! Even online, I'm a pretty shy person. :)

Tying up the loose ends

About six years ago, I attended the church I grew up in for the last time. I hadn't been there in several weeks, and questions were asked about where I had been and what I was up to. Mostly it was the pastor's wife, who had been a mentor to me, asking about what I had been doing. The tone she used made me think she knew I was in a "faith crisis" or whatever you want to call it. I made up a lie about attending another church closer to home and left it at that. I walked out the doors and never…

I'm an Atheist, Therefore I'm Weird?

My grandmother called tonight. It was a little bit of a surprise, but we (my parents and I) were glad to hear from her. My parents and Grandma talked about the weather and this and that. It was a totally normal conversation, and then Grandma started asking about me. Actually, the words that came from my 84-year-old grandma's mouth were, "What's with Kristi?"

My aunt, who is a born-again Christian (like pretty much the rest of my dad's side of the family) has been closely monitoring my… Continue

Some of you may remember that I received a Facebook message from a Christian friend of mine awhile back, wherein she took it upon herself to tell me how much God loves me and all that. I responded to her in kind, explaining as nicely as I could why I no longer believe. I never got a response from her after that.

Tonight, I received a message from a cousin. She was raised Catholic and although I don't think she really practices anymore, she…
