I was raised (and am still living) in an area that is predominately conservative and Christian, and yet somehow, I turned out liberal and Atheist. I'm still not quite sure how that happened. I would love to move, but that's just not an option right now. I would like to meet people who do not shun me just because I don't believe in an imaginary being, even if the Internet is the only place we will ever see each other.
Why are you here?
I'm an atheist who is still in the closet, mainly because I live in an extremely conservative and Christian area. This is my way of being around people who understand me. And in the end, isn't that what we are all looking for in life?
The religion you left
Was never a part of one
Why you left your religion.
I can't say that I was ever "in" religion to begin with. My parents are not very religious, and therefore didn't raise me to be religious. My mother and I tried the whole church thing for a few years when I was in middle school. I don't really remember why we quit going, but I do remember that I had been questioning the existence of a god before that point, and after, I was pretty sure the whole thing was a lie. I didn't find out until I was in high school that there are other people out there who, like me, don't believe in gods - and we are atheists. That was when I officially gave up trying to believe something that just didn't make any sense.
