Both these stem from the need to be apart of something more so than carrying any truth except to say religion is opinion of a truth and not the truth...atheisis are a confused lot, however closer to the truth than religion as there is an entity we could call God if it were not for the religious opinion based on control and manipulation...for example...a man once said, "do not come to me go to God"...which is an empowering statement to the receiver...man (religion) says, "come to me and I will get you to God...which is suppression...

Regardless of how we got here, it is rational to assume that the mind is or was developed as much then as now. And due to our image of the past being in black and white with innocent ignorance everywhere it is hard for us to understand physically and mentally we are the same then as now. I would suggest the only difference would be lack of memory or knowledge not mental capability. In the beginning we would have had no knowledge of anything.
