I honestly didn't know what category to put this in so I guessed, tossed it where it lay, and figured someone would correct me later. Either way...I was reading a weight loss blog (because I recently…Continue

I'm rather certain this has been asked before and I merely couldn't find the discussion.Without getting into too much background, I'm a newlywed. The husband and I have one of those stories that are…Continue

In a very long and not the slightest bit interesting story I began going to a chiropractor. It's part of my anti-modern-medicine belief. The chiropractor I go to, an incredibly energetic man by the…Continue

The first thing I must acknowledge is the fact that I don't have children. There are many reasons why but the most obvious would be the fact that I consider myself too young, despite what my mother…Continue

The Portable Atheist - From De Rerum Natura

I'd like to preface my first post by saying that I've never led a book discussion nor have I been a member of one in nearly a decade. I attempted to find discussion questions for TPA but none existed despite my constantly rephrased google searches. That said, let's get started.I kind of felt that this first section was a bit redundant. It basically just said, "Hey, you can't get something from nothing. Science > Religion" but was rather verbose about it. It's a great opening for the book…See More

"Now that I have said that though, yeah there are two different types, and it sounds like he is Missouri Synod because they are more rigid.  There also is a smaller Swedish denomination too, but they aren't really prominent, and there may…"

"Juli, I honestly recommend that you seek out some conflict resolution via marriage counseling.   I would recommend someone who does either Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (which is based on challenging irrational thoughts to correct your feelings)…"

Juli replied to Juli's discussion 'Dealing with a religious spouse'
"I would consider it half a battle won if he would realize that religion is going to be a conflict at some point in our marriage. So far he's just ignoring any religious based conflict (which isn't good since the child talks started),…"

Juli replied to Juli's discussion 'Dealing with a religious spouse'
"I'm strongly considering the childless option and not looking forward to the discussion where I'll have to bring it up. Better a short, painful discussion now than a long, painful divorce later. It helps that I honestly doubt any child is…"

The Portable Atheist - Christopher Hitchens

I was scanning the last few posts in the group and feel as though I'm about to beat a dead horse but... does anyone want to read The Portable Atheist with me?  http://www.amazon.com/The-Portable-Atheist-Essential-Nonbeliever/dp/0306816083It's 480 pages divided into 47 very short readings (Do the math!) that would take less than an hour each. It's also allegedly informative and I've been meaning to read…See More

Why you left your religion.
When I was seven, I thought God was being horribly unfair for loving some children more than others and letting the ones that didn't listen to him burn in Hell for eternity. When I was 9 I wondered why some God let some kids have Christmas presents and left others to starve. After that things just snowballed.
