"This is why, except when someone harasses me with their beliefs (i.e. Mormons and JW's on Saturday morning), I reply with assurance that "You don't want to hear what I think about religion." Dismissal of curiosity has saved me…"

"I live by the addage "if u can't handle the answer, don't ask the question".  No apologies are necessary..She..asked YOU.  Why hide the truth or who u are?  How she handled your answer is up to her.  Religious…"

Reg The Fronkey Farmer replied to Jordan Hardy's discussion 'Religious discussion can hurt.'
"Usually those who claim to be hurt by another persons opinion have not strong faith in their own beliefs. Otherwise it should not bother them. They often cry or get angry because they are confused and have doubts about what they think they believe.…"

"Here's someone who's got a whole planet of humans around her and not one of them is as important than her imaginary friend in the sky. She can be worried for your soul as long as you can also be deeply worried about the state of her mental…"

"Unfortunately, the odds that their psychiatrist is a skeptic, atheist, or free thinker is relatively low. There's the sad thing right there."

"The belief is rooted in facts, but how concrete the facts are is what sets everything apart.  The bible, quaran, geeta all are old and cannot be proven or rejected cause they were written in time when proof was what one saw or…"

"Absolutely right!    Jordan, you have nothing to apologize for.  Stick to your guns and remain calm in these situations.  Try not let the conversation become emotional.  That is best done by saying little.  Let them…"

About Me:
Hi, I'm a religious studies and philosophy major at the Pacific Lutheran University. I had plans to be a pastor when I started college but, well, things changed. Now I am a Unitarian Universalist and an atheist. Regardless of my opinions, I still love reading the Saints, and especially modern theology. Paul Tillich has a special place in my heart. My other heroes include Carl Sagan, Heisenberg, and Neil deGrasse Tyson.

Cheers!

Why are you here?
Even in the Northwest, it is easy to feel alone as an atheist. I see some terrifying things in the news; the religious right are building their forces politically. I feel nonbelievers will have to do the same thing.
