Money. Relationship-splintering, friendship-rending, a societal construct of sorts, that, for better or worse, is probably here to stay. No one ever has enough of it, but in the end, when the lights go down and you make your peace with everyone important to you, you can't take it with you.
I bet it would make a good fire-starter, though.
