I think, therefore I am, atheist.

Why the focus on Sunday morning service/Sunday school? Is there resentment toward the Christian church? If so there are plenty of legitimate reasons, generally speaking. Religious hypocrites and whackos and obnoxicons do more for atheism than any ot…

Wow! Sunday really snuck-up on me this week. Unintentional, but this leaves you all with a short service. So go spend this non-religious 'holiday' with some friends and/or family.

Great video, I saw the green block at the end, a message from god to Atheists, and figured it was religious propaganda but it was the truth. I was relieved, & enjoyed it no end. Thanks ever so much. An Atheist Blesses you.! Roy

About Me:
I was raised 7th-Day-Adventist early on, Evangelical Christian later on. College, the Military, and real life opened my eyes a lot. Further curiosity, education, reading, and digging led to my deconversion. I work in IT Security, did 6 years in the US Army, and have been happily married for 6 years (and count myself lucky she is like-minded when it comes to religion).

Why you left your religion.
disillusionment with church, doubts about god communicating to pastor, doubts about god communicating at all, inability to view god as anything more than a sadistic tyrant, contradiction between bible's claim of god's love and existence of hell, doubting bible led to crumbling away of any firm belief structure, Other
Why you left your religion. - Other reason
When I was in 4th grade my father had a falling-out with elders and left the church. The elders pressed my mother to divorce my father because he was a evil influence on her children. That was when I first determined that something about religion was wrong and corrupt.

In 10th grade, after having read the Bible, I started asking my youth pastor questions. This spiraled into more and more disbelief, and some bitterness toward all church in-general.

Some college, a stint in the military, and exposure to the larger world; and I was sure that the church was a control mechanism that was usually corrupt, and that religion was truly the root of all evil in the world.

I read about other religions and read a lot of mythologies. I pretty much decided that if I was going to have to believe in something, I would rather believe in Greek or Norse gods, or more Paganist beliefs of nature and Gia. But I just kept those thoughts to myself.

In 2006 I saw the Zeitgeist movie (the part on religion); and had an eye opener. I started researching and reading trying to check the facts quoted in the movie. Turns out many of the facts don't check out; but my research greatly contributed to my increasing non-belief. This eventually led me to more and more atheist sites, and it suddenly clicked one day, this was what I had been looking for: putting a title to my own belief that I did not believe in God.

Suddenly (or so it seemed) I was free! I honestly think I never realized that not believing in God was an option. The realization that it was an option, and that it was how I felt freed me on so many levels.

If you're interested you can find a more detailed deconversion story here.

I really need to take an HTML class or something. I'm confused on the precise placement of the tag. I have been toying with using it in various places in various ways, but to no effect that I can tell.

Thanks, Johnny! I guess that if I were to type the break tag code after the code for both photos, then anything after that would appear below the photos?

Johnny! You showed me how to align photos left and right with code. What if I want two photos side by side? After I make them do that, my next lines of text always runs down the narrow column between the two. I'd like for it to start below the photos. Could you tell me how to make that happen? I appreciate your help!

actually i think that's a great idea! very clever to continue the church-type sunday ritual theme. it also solves the problem of the people that see your post before i add my comment missing out on all the stuff i add or simply missing out on what i add because they don't read any of the comments.

what should we call it? "Sunday School"? is there another name that you can think of that would play on the theme?

hey Johnny, hope your weekend's going well!
question for you: i have a bunch of links to offer as a complement to yours again but i wanted to see if you'd like it better if i made my own blog post with those links or just added the ones i have to your post in the form of a comment like last week.
i want to do what you'd prefer because the SMS is your thing. anyway, lemme know! thanks man.

Looks like an agenda in there. In the story you link to, it says:

Like hundreds of other scientists around the world, Dr. Lu may have unwittingly relied on invalid data for a portion of his study. His real-time satellite and balloon data, which shows CO2 does not cause climate change, is not in dispute. Not so for the historical temperature data, on which he based his estimates of how much global cooling we face as Earth’s temperatures return to their historic pre-CFC levels. “My temperature data comes from the UK – the Climate Research Unit at East Anglia University,” he reveals when questioned. As a result of the Climategate Scandal, this temperature data is now in doubt. Investigations into the Climategate emails are underway at East Anglia and the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The temperature data from "Climategate is not in doubt.

I wish I knew more about peer reviewed journals, but there is worry, even among climatolgists dealing with climate "skeptics", that the peer review process in some journals is being hijacked by ideology, and they even allude to this in these emails.

The writer of this article is a climate change "skeptic", according to his Wiki, and that explains the tone of the article.

Dr. Q-B Lu
doesn't seem qualified to, with one paper, overturn all the mounting evidence of most climatologists. Here is his website. Pretty colors.

I'd have to dig more to see if Physical Review Letters is very reputable. I know that sometimes pseudoscience nuts will publish in journals that don't normally deal with the subject matter in the paper. Many times it is a matter of finding a sympathetic editor.
