When I was 10, I realized I was Atheist. (BTW, i hate the term atheist, but for the sake of simplicity I will use it). Before then I didn't realize that was an option. But then my sister asked me if I believed in God... when presented with that choice, I made the logical, rational decision and said No. When I was 28 I came out as Gay. Interestingly, and this just now occurred to me, it was the same sister that pulled me out of the closet, asking me if I was gay. It is just a matter of time before I let my family know that I am actually Black, though i am pretty sure they suspect.
Despite being Atheist virtually my entire life (my "confirmation" in the Catholic church when i didn't believe in god pretty much sealed the deal... not exactly sure what it was they were confirming), I love gospel music. Mostly because I enjoy any music sung with deep feeling and emotion. I am also very much into Zen Buddhism and Taoism. (I say that I am an Zen Taoist), though I don't consider myself spiritual. But I do highly recommend "The Little Book of Atheist Spirituality". (Yes, i am a walking contradiction much of the time).
I am not a fan of Richard Dawkins or any of the other atheist authors. They spew the same ole stuff we've all heard over and over. I do, however, highly recommend "The Language of God: A Scientist Presents Evidence for Belief" by the ever so self righteous Francis S Collins as a great resource for debunking Christian arguments against atheism. He does all the work for you... not sure where the evidence he refers to in the subtitle was exactly.
And that is me in a nutshell.
Why are you here?
Being Atheist can be a lonely place. I am often envious of those who can turn to their churches for support, sense of community, etc. Came across this site through a facebook post and thought i would check it out. And i like it!
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
didnt understand how an infinite being can be male but not female. Origin story makes no sense whatsoever, neither does most of genesis (the waters above??) Been Atheist since i was 10 and never really looked back.
