Jim Scotti replied to Ari's discussion 'Feeling Anxious and Uncertain for College'
"I presume you are attending college for the first time.  I remember the start of my life out in the real world on my own.  The unknowns are many and the uncertainty is large, but the opportunities are equal to all the unknowns and…"

Jim Scotti replied to Toby Briggs's discussion 'Evolution question for you scientists out there...!'
"Not being a biologist (but being an astronomer..), here's a few thoughts.  I've heard creationists complaining about how an incomplete organ like an eye or in your case, a birds wings, are completely useless.  That's what…"

Jim Scotti replied to G's discussion 'Is your trust in science based on faith or based on science?'
"...despite Western imperialism most of the humans on the planet even now don't really grok science. Science doesn't depend on what the common human knows or understands.  If we had to vote on science using the knowledge of the average…"

Jim Scotti replied to G's discussion 'Is your trust in science based on faith or based on science?'
"Both science and religion are human endeavors, trying honestly to understand things that are much bigger than humans. I don't agree: science does not depend on humanity - any thinking beings who can observe and interact with the world around…"

Pat Robertson - People should deny atheists their right to free speech in public

"Or maybe the billboard companies have no problem putting up Atheist billboards, so it's just too bad that you have to see them Mr. Robertson.  If your religion is so fragile it can't handle differing viewpoints then it's not…"

Jim Scotti replied to Russell's discussion 'Miracles'
"If someones cancer was cured it wasn't a miracle, it was science.  Most people draw their miracle thresholds way too low.  A 1 in a million event happens to 7,000 people!"

pray towards mecca?..really?

"They forgot the prayers by folks standing on their heads....  Not that that changes the number of prayers wasted, that would be all of them anyway, regardless of direction of prayer."

Jim Scotti replied to Michael's discussion 'Dome of the Rock UFO Jerusalem - New close up footage'
"I agree that there is almost certainly other life in the Universe, and it might have visited/be visiting Earth, but there isn't a shred of physical evidence other than questionable eyewitness accounts, claims of massive conspiracy/coverup and,…"

Jim Scotti replied to Michael's discussion 'Dome of the Rock UFO Jerusalem - New close up footage'
"Real or fake, "there's a light in the sky I can't explain, so it has to be an alien spacecraft!" because it couldn't possibly be something earthly and mundane like Venus or a reflection in the optics of your camera...."

Jim Scotti replied to Michael's discussion 'Alien Moon Base Captured By Chang'e-2 Orbiter? 2012'

Jim Scotti replied to Michael's discussion 'Alien Moon Base Captured By Chang'e-2 Orbiter? 2012'
"As usual, unsupported anecdotal evidence. Who knows what this guy saw 45 years ago? The video graphics are clearly unrelated or at least, undocumented so that we can go check the images independently.  The last time I saw a documented case,…"

Your Religious Status
Atheist, Secular/Nonreligious/Agnostic
About Me:
I am a Planetary Scientist & have been agnostic/atheist since I pulled myself slowly out of the quagmire of religious superstition as a teenager. I love to learn as much as I can about the Universe we live in & religion is certainly an impediment to that pursuit.
Why are you here?
To connect with fellow skeptics & atheists.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
Discovered as I learned more about the Universe & the world we live in that everything I'd learned in religion was just plain wrong & silly. I realized that religion was just organized superstition.
