Hi All

I guess I am not very observant 'cause I just noticed this thread. Anyway, I was raised in the Midwest by humans that sprung from Congregationalists arriving in the "New World" in the first part of the Seventeenth Century. I only mention the Mayflower connection because my family history is all tied up with religion and religion has always been reinforced by my family history, by my family. As I said, I was raised in the Bible Belt, some time ago, so there was no reason to believe in God except…See More

Devil Take the Hindmost

Posted on July 19, 2011 at 8:00pm 0 Comments

I just got an email from Alan Grayson with that title. He is saying that this is the logic of the GOP or Tea Party in congress when they talk about cutting Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid.

I am guessing, if they were asked, that they would say, "Devil Take the Hindmost" is part of the Bible. It is actually from the 17th century and derives from a Military context. 'Every man for himself, and the devil take the hindmost.' The actual context being, faced with overwhelming… Continue

SUPERSTITION IN ALL AGES

I really like this book because it was written 127+ years before "On the Origin of Species", so in a way the arguments presented are of a purer nature using logic that is more understandable to theists. In a sense, it is a thesis on atheism by someone who spent his life as a theologian. Even during the time of "Enlightenment" it was dangerous to express atheistic ideas.
