Infuriated by ignorance!

The word "god" does not make Christians/Catholics/Mormons/Muslims etc... beliefs anymore important, anymore sacred or somehow worthy of more protection than my beliefs (or lack thereof) or anyone else's.  The "faithful" need to realize their religion is not above scrutiny just because they claim that they have the market cornered on truth and their religion is inspired by the "one true god".  Nearly every time I point out a gaping hole in people's philosophies their reaction is invariably one…See More

Atheist
About Me:
31 yr old writer from Seattle, now living in New York City.
Age
31-35
Why are you here?
To learn, to be entertained and to contribute as much as I can to the non-believer community.
The religion you left
Christian
Why you left your religion.
I was born and raised in a Baptist Church near Seattle, WA. It was my hub in Jr. High and High School and I spent a year at bible college after High School. I was as committed as person could be to "living biblically" until the age of 25 or so. Beginning then I began having nagging doubts, I was afraid to really examine what I believed for a long time I think. When I finally did, it didn't take long for me to categorically reject God and religion entirely.

I am now a very outspoken, very vocal Atheist. I frequently challenge the beliefs of my friends and family, and am viewed as quite antagonistic among my Christian Facebook friends. That's fine with me, I am also an Iraq war veteran so very few people challenge my right to speak my mind about my beliefs. Some people have not responded so positively however, my mother disowned me on my birthday this past year because I had "rejected Jesus" and therefore rejected her. We'll see how that develops, I'm sure she'll be back before too long.
