About Me:
I was once a very devout christian. I studied the Bible every day. I didn't cuss. I was abstinent. I fasted 3 days a week. I was on my way to be a youth minister. This went on most of my life. Through my religious studies, I constantly found flaws with the Bible and Christianity that I could not reconcile. One day I decided to take the belief goggles off for just one second. I never put them back on.

Why are you here?
I live in a very Christian town. I would guess there is probably less than 1% atheist here. I am a professional and I literally have to hide my atheism at work and in business because it would ruin my career to expose myself. But it is hard to keep everything bottled up.
The religion you left
Christian
Why you left your religion.
The people are evil. The Bible is flawed. The dogma is flawed. Facts outweighed irrational belief.

Many of our outspoken atheist/agnostics admit to having met actual ministers and other clergy who are no longer believers.. but who are unable to leave their livelihood. Understandable; but sad.

And then more recent research at the university of Washington found the exact opposite and that circumcision does not affect HPV infection! See http://mondofown.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/hpv-infections-findings-of-thorough.html

The trouble is, of course, with the convience of the internet, you can always cherry pick to get information that backs up your argument - and points of view start to take on the characteristics of a religion!

Nevertheless, I hope I have an open mind, and the internet really helped me look into the background of this issue over the past few years - and I now stand by the view that circumcision is an old practice - with its roots in religion, which in 100 years time, we will look back and say "did we really do that to our children?"

Some good references - and beware of convienient research findings that have been sponsored by a members of the anti-circumcision or pro-circumcision lobbies!

And then more recent research (2011) at The University of Washington - that has found that male circumcision has no effect on human papillomavirus (HPV) infection rates!! i.e. the complete opposite!

The problem is that you can cherry pick the references you want these days to justify a point of view. You have to be careful that you keep an open mind. Otherwise a points of view like this starts to take on the characteristics of a religion!!!

Some good background reading here!
