I hope everyone recognized the sarcasm in that title and doesn't already assume I'm crazy. I swear to god I'm not ;)Well before I dive into what's been bothering me, I'll let you know who I am. I'm a 17 year old girl who recently had an epiphany and came to realize she was an atheist. As a child I went to Catholic school and ironically I had the highest grade in the religion class. I don't know when it began but I started to question a lot of things in, not just Christianity, but all religions.…See More

About Me:
I'm currently a junior in high school. My favorite subject is Science which initially led me to questioning what I had been taught to believe. I participate in Track and Field as a distance runner. I also love musical theatre. I've been in Grease, School House Rock and Peter Pan. I have a passion for music, I have since I was a child. I was playing basic melodies by ear on my grandfather's keyboard when I was 7 months old. I hope to go to Slippery Rock or West Virginia University for physical therapy or veterinary medicine eventually. I'm also interested in joining the Marine Corps. I really enjoy writing. I have a story I've been working on based on a series of dreams of mine that were all related. I'm 5'1. Brunette. I love horses. I play guitar, piano, guitar, trumpet and I sing. I'm the oldest of three children. I have two younger brothers. I went to a Catholic school in preschool and kindergarten. I have a pet Cat named "Scar" after the uncle in the Lion King. I love video games. Especially the old school Zelda and Sonic games for GameCube.
Favorite Movies: Red Dawn (both), Avatar, Harry Potter series, The Lord of the Rings trilogy The Hunger Games, Keith, Adventureland, The Goonies, The Lost Boys, The Lion King

Favorite Quote: "In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken.' And then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens everyday. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." -Carl Sagan

Why are you here?
I'm here to connect with other people my age exploring atheism and to get advice from other atheists. I only recently realized I was an atheist, after I noticed how much I constantly challenge the concept of religion in my mind and how much I doubted what I was taught to believe.
The religion you left
Catholic
Why you left your religion.
I left because, more often than not, I did not agree with something that had to do with my religion. It really hit me when I went to church with my friend and I sat there through the entire sermon thinking "They know this stuff isn't real, right?". I sometimes thought, "The author of the bible could have been a schizophrenic seeing people in the sky for all we know, and all these people live their lives based on this book." I also came to realize that Catholicism is a relatively new religion if you look in terms of human history. "What about all the other groups of humans who believed in other things before any mention of Jesus or 'God'? Are they wrong? Their beliefs came first, why are you saying they're going to hell? Why didn't they know about 'God' if he created everything?" Also there's no mention of dinosaurs in the bible. Obviously there were multitudes of life before the humans even knew how to pick up sticks. I even started to consider the possibility of the figures in the bible actually being extraterrestrial beings. (Don't think I'm crazy) How Jesus supposedly could walk on water and heal medical ailments before the people of that time had the knowledge of doing so. Also how Jesus rose from the dead and the ascended into the sky promising to come back when "the world would end." (AKA, when the aliens decided they finally want the planet. They keep checking on us, which is why there are sightings of them every so often in the same places. People are abducted and put back without being harmed because they are looking at our advancements in medicine and how we're developing as a species. Just a theory.) In a not-so-crazy mindset, there are aliens and UFOs in the paintings and hieroglyphs inside the pyramids. There are also theories about the aliens helping build the pyramids. (I mean, the Egyptians did line them up with the Earth's magnetic field and the stars.) There's also the possibility of the HUMANS being the aliens which is why there is no missing link between us and apes. Alright, I'm done ranting.
