About Me:
I am a 27 years old and live in the middle of Georgia. I am a former Marine, who got out in Sept of 2005, and am an active member of the Iraqi Veterans Agaist the War. I enjoy music, movies and food, especially cooking. I enjoy cannabis when the mood strikes, which is most of the time recently as my body has begun to feel the effects of 8 years in the Corps.
Why are you here?
For the first 18 years of my life I lived in a family full of Southern Baptists. When I joined the Marines and got out of the Bible Belt, I started to experience life in a more interesting way. I've been out of the church now for about 10 years, and don't regret anything I have done. I've recently moved back home, and now that I am engulfed in the bible thumping again, I have begun to speak out more and more against religion. Its a hard thing to do though to change these peoples minds, ignorance is bliss for them, and they are happy with it.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
After being baptized twice, and giving religion a chance for 18 years, I stopped trying. Then, I discovered my common sense, and decided to start taking responsibility for what I want my life to be, and not depend on a magic man in the clouds to dictate my life. I also didnt want to raise my children in a misleading, hypocritical church. I also didnt find it very productive or moral to be a part of a group that has a commandment not to kill, but have killed more people in the name of God than anyone in history.

The founding fathers made it a priority to make sure religion didn’t make its way into our politics and justice system. They knew that if an individual received their morals and lived their life according to a faith based system, they would allow that influence to spill over into the way they govern their population.

I never paid attention to the inauguration of any president to date, so finding out that this phrase has been added by every president since Roosevelt struck me as sort… Continue

Yeah. There are actually quite a few people on here that grew up in Southern Baptist homes. I think we should start a group.

Hey, welcome to the site! You ought to share some of your stories about living among the bible-thumpers (I sure have a few) on your blog. I'm betting you've a certain insight on the matter and have some entertaining interactions. Give it a spin.
