"This is really interesting! Thanks for posting :) The idea of a godlike creature out there that makes some sort of sense is very encouraging!"

The Sun god, Polytheism, and the hive mind.

Like many, if not all of the interesting creatures on this site I consider the prospect of a humanoid supernatural deity highly suspect, I think that the heaviest blow rendered against the cloud man is one of free will. If He made us this way and He knows exactly how our lives will play out and unfold according to His plan, then heavenly justice is the least just commodity that can be conjured up. What are we supposed to do, suprise Him? That would be wonderful, we would surprise myself if we…See More

Waking life: Free will and physics

"In a way, in our contemporary world view, it's easy to think that science has come to take the place of God. But some philosophical problems remain as troubling as ever. Take the problem of free will...

"I noticed you haven't posted any commandments C-lo. Well that's okay. Here are mine, not necessarily in this order. I also might have left some out. 1) Be honest with yourself and others. 2) Appriciate the planet. 3) Treat people as you…"

About Me:
Well let's see... I Grew up on a steady diet of incubus, george carlin, exercise, and books about space. I was that kid who always refused to stand up for the pledge of allegiance and whose Sunday school consisted of running a muck in the suburbs. Being skeptical by nature and twenty kinds of rebellious back then made me a constant target for people to convert, but I always had some stubbornly high in the sky utopian dreams which never meshed with waiting 80 years for a skyland. History put the fangs on religion for me, turning it from a strange and hilarious absurdity to a living breathing viral evolution inhibitor. Since then I've dabbled in my own particular brand of zen and combat meditation through college wrestling, very interesting time in my life for sure. I go to school in Boston where I've found the gnarly hopelessly agnostic and ridiculously fun to be around crowd that I never thought existed.

I'm into kung fu movies, hammocks, red wine, shelter dogs, thunder storms..

I'm not really into quotes...but here's a good one..
"For monkeys to speak of truth is hubris of the highest degree. Where is it writ large that talking-monkeys should be able to model the cosmos? If a sea urchin or a racoon were to propose to you that it had a viable truth about the universe, the absurdity of that assertion would be self-evident, but in our case we make an exception." -Terrence McKenna

Why are you here?
Cause the vast majority of people I meet are startlingly cool but many of them have bought into this or that brand of ultimate reality and stopped thinking, a disorder far less common on this site. Plus I'm reminded ad nauseum that I've got a pretty decent sized hunk of stuff still to learn from people.
The religion you left
Was never a part of one
Why you left your religion.
Because spiral galaxies are more breathtaking than parted seas
Because Dostoevsky and Steven King tell better stories, and say a whole bunch more about being human.
Because the bottom billion still have no food and water
Because divinity is something to strive for requiring us to collectively get up off of our knees and stop praying.
Because that god would have been horrible company to say the least.
Because no white collared prophet can dictate my relationship with the universe to me.
Because this world can never be as beautiful as it could if 80 percent of it's inhabitants think of it as a warm up round..

This is obviously an instruction - a literal commandment - rather than a behavioural proposition. Why? Because there is no attempt at either a pain or pleasure proposition. It is not even possible to… Continue

What god has to say about atheism

Hey all, I've been kicking around the idea of posting this short story for a bit now and have decided this is the just the place for it to work it's magik. Let me first give cred where cred is due; this is no work of mine, I personally haven't written anything 'fictionally' noteworthy since middle school but at the same time Stottle has informed a lot of my thinking about god and well, fuck, everything else too, for a number of years now...you can find the entire work of his peculiarly… Continue
