Why Should I

The reason we have to be polite to them and they dont to us is that we're trying to convince them to listen to reason, so we need to keep things calm. They are appealing to emotion and hurt feelings…

As an atheist what are your opinions on sharing the fact that you do not believe in a God

I told some kids I work with that I didnt believe in any gods and they asked "so who do you think made the world then?" It is very sad that their minds are twisted like that. These are decent kids wh…

My friend just made me feel hurt.

Tell him that the card was for him, not god, and that you believed in him. I doubt he's worth celebrating anymore though if he is that petty. Honestly, religious people just dont get the true meanin…

Women in the atheism community, or lack thereof

Well that is twisted! Nobody asks for rape. That's true by definition! It makes me sick when people feel like the victim shares the blame for criminal/violent acts.

Primate Pride

I got bogged down in a twitter argument a week or so ago. I didn't mean to. I had the best of intentions, but I still ended up with a raging headache and a pile of @ replies from a believer.

So anyway... Like many other people I am fascinated by my fellow primates. I stand and stare in awe at them whenever I'm at the zoo. They are a real and tangible connection to the world around me. It is quite inspiring and poetic really.

I noticed a believer [@tministry] had been commentin… Continue

I'm rubber, you're glue...

Where did the christian boing-flip come from? It seems like they are always holding up a mirror to life so that then can get everything backwards. But even by their standards this is a ridiculous tactic.

Consider Ray Comfort, unpleasant though the task may be. Ray makes statements like

  • "Evolution is a fairytale for grown ups."

  • "you can lead an atheist to evidence but you cannot make him think."

  • "Evolution is the dumbest religion ever invented"

I met the Pope

To be fair, met is a strong word. Like the religion he leads the meeting was fairly formal, liturgical and overcrowded. Appropriately for Rome it was bread and circuses. He read a speech in various languages ominously, in retrospect, inviting us all to World Youth Day.

I'm tempted to think he wouldn't dare give such a speech these days, what with his contempt for youth being more widely known, but I suspect that nothing is too low or two faced for this man. He'll stand up and call hims… Continue

Jumping in the Piranha Tank

A few times recently I've taken myself over to some conservative blogs. Partly I was challenging my own confirmation bias by not just reading blogs I agree with but I also had pressing question for myself. I can most easily sum it up by saying:

"What the hell are these people thinking?"

And it seems that I am left none the wiser. I held my temper in check, and laughed in nobody's face. I kept in mind the behaviour of christian trolls on the blogs I read and purposefully avoided duplicating it.… Continue

My favorite response to such tactics has always been to point out that Atheism is no more a religion than bald is a hair color.

When you use tact with a certain type of christian they take it as a tacit acknowledgement that you know they are right. You have a god shaped hole in your heart. Whereas if you are honest in your assessment of their beliefs you are "hateful" I thi…
