"Brilliant" Programmer Commits Suicide

This is very sad. Bill Zeller, a Princeton Ph.D., committed suicide recently and left a 4,000-word suicide note, which is included in the link. Sexual abuse at a very young age was the cause, but if you read to the end, he has some parting thoughts for his fundamentalist christian family. I have this fantasy that his family will read it and issue a press release disavowing their fucked up thinking. I'm sure what will really happen is they'll double down their belief that their son was tempted…See More

So WE are the ones who are arrogant. Ah. I get it.

I'm new here. Hello. Not sure if I'm posting in the right place, but here's an article written by an atheist who says that atheists are the ones who are arrogant (or, at least the ones she lists in her article). It's very clever how she says that believers are the ones who have a healthy level of skepticism ("doubt is necessary for faith"), and it's the intolerant atheists who are trying to impede the intellectual journeys of others. …See More

Gilbert Carvey commented on Diego's blog post 'Online "closet" atheists annoy me. Does that happen to you?'
"It's great that you're out. Not everyone is. Religion and politics can ruin friendships and impact careers, so some prefer to keep their personal and professional lives separate from their online lives, which is where they express…"
