The Rev. Dustin Reade, ESQ. replied to Johnny's discussion 'Eliminating the Pledge from a School Board Meeting' in the group Seattle, Wash. Atheists
"this has been a subject of debate for a while, I think. If I remember correctly there was an athiest Lawyer in Texas a few years back that wanted to eliminate the "one nation, under God" portion" from the pledge. He made it pretty far."

Profile Information

Your Religious Status
About Me:
I am a writer of science fiction, and slice of life vignettes. I am a powerful supporter of evolution, as well as a Non-denominational minister, the father of a lovely two year old girl, a musician, film maker, and I am just now entering college to begin a career in the funeral industry (no joke).
Why are you here?
I believe it is important to understand the veiws of people from all walks of life, without having those veiws tainted by religion. I am here to help provide reason in the face of the mass superstition blossoming all around us in America. I am here to speak out against the threat of hell, and any other such penalties one grows up fearing should one decide to think for themselves. I am here to gain a clear, educated view of the world around me, and how it works. I am here, as I am anywhere, to learn and grow as a person.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
I never fully accepted the teachings as realistic veiwpoints. I placed them in the same category as Santa Claus and the Tooth fairy--things to use as metaphors, or life lessons, but not things to actually base your worldveiw around. That people actually beleived in the things being said was frightening to me, and I decided I had to get away.
