"It reminds me of the term 'As a Mother...' and 'As an American...' and I'm guessing it comes from the same source - the person has some subconscious awareness that the thing they are about to say has no rational foundation…"
"I always find that attitude funny...
I have a christian ...friend I suppose... who said to me that the reason I lost my job and the reason my wife is Bipolar is because I don't worship God and Jesus. If I did, my woes would all go away,…"
Raised as a lapsed catholic, dabbled with new age wiccan and pagan stuff in my late teens and found a lot of it was obvious trash. The more I applied reason to those claims the more I realised I was becoming an atheist.
So now I'm a spiritual atheist ( :D) and rationalist.
Why are you here?
Procrastination, intellectual discussion and general interest.
The religion you left
Why you left your religion.
As a child I was taught to say my prayers before I went to bed.
Around the age of five I began to wonder about the words I was saying. Each line of prayer seemed rather pointless. Why should I thank God for my daily bread? my mum got it from Presto's. Why should I be MADE to be thankful... either I am or I am not...
By the age of six, I'd stopped saying my prayers and by seven I had listened to enough dogma from my family to realise I didn't believe a word of it.
