Profile Information

Your Religious Status
Atheist, Secular/Nonreligious/Agnostic
About Me:
I've been in the US Navy for eight years as a nuclear power operator. When I was 28 I started actively questioning organized religion, as opposed to not thinking about it at all, and considered myself agnostic. After about 1. 5 years of questioning I was finally able to start thinking of myself as an atheist - It's not an easy thing to do.

More to come later...
Why are you here?
Someone in my Albany, NY atheist meet-up group posted a link to the site so I signed up.
The religion you left
Christian, Catholic
Why you left your religion.
It just doesn't make sense.
Lack of evidence

Favorite Quotes

Favorite quotes:
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed immaturity. Immaturity is the inability to use one's understanding without guidance from another. This immaturity is self-imposed when its cause lies not in lack of understanding, but in lack of resolve and courage to use it without guidance from another. Sapere Aude! [Dare to know!] Have courage to use your own understanding! That is the motto of enlightenment."
- Immanuel Kant, philosopher (1724 – 1804)

"Patriotism is proud of a country's virtues and eager to correct its deficiencies; it also acknowledges the legitimate patriotism of other countries, with their own specific virtues. The pride of nationalism, however, trumpets its country's virtues and denies its deficiencies, while it is contemptuous toward the virtues of other countries. It wants to be, and proclaims itself to be, "the greatest", but greatness is not required of a country; only goodness is."
- Sydney J. Harris, journalist and author (1917-1986)
