Like most atheists, I am an agnostic-atheist. I prefer to identify as an AGNOSTIC-atheist. The agnostic part is more important. I don't think it's important to define myself by my lack of belief in god, just like I don't think it's important to define myself by my lack of belief in Santa Claus or The Easter Bunny. It makes something that doesn't even exist into something important enough to center your description of yourself on it. That is just stupid. Instead I define myself according to the AGNOSTIC part of agnostic-atheist, because saying I am an agnostic is much more revealing than saying I am an atheist. Being agnostic shows my approach to knowledge overall: I'm not going to jump to a conclusion until you can PROVE it's right. I have no need to place my chips on a number. That's what belief is: throwing your chips on an outcome you can't prove in a was that is testable, repeatable, and stands up to intense peer scrutiny. An atheist is just somebody who doesn't believe in God; an agnostic is somebody who doesn't throw in with an outcome until it's absolutely proven. I think that's more important and revealing than non-belief in God, Santa, leprechauns, ESP or alien visitors.

To many unanswered questions, or questions whose answers were very obviously--even to my young mind--totally contrived bullshit. For example, Adam and Eve give birth to brothers Cain and Abel. Cain kills Abel. Eventually Cain goes into the desert and marries a woman. Where did this woman come from? God picked up dust and made a woman? I thought woman came from Adam's rib? Doesn't that mean Cain's wife, not being derived from a man, is more empowered than Eve herself? Why is none of this discussed in the Bible? It seems pretty important!
Also there was the time my youth group teacher tried to make me quit playing Dungeons & Dragons by telling me that a boy once threw away his D&D books and they burst into flames and screamed at him in demonic voices. I knew then that my youth church teacher was either incredibly stupid (if she really believed that story) or was a total barefaced liar (if she would tell it to me as if true in order to manipulate me).
