"Dr. Bob  I just wanted to express my appreciation for your thoughtful and articulate answer to my recent post regarding the rearing of children as freethinkers.  And I will make a point of giving your ideas and those of others a great deal…"

Dr. Bob replied to D. Brooks's discussion 'Raising our children as freethinkers'
"A lot of religion is culture (or perhaps a lot of culture is religion?) and shared culture is what creates communities in many ways.   I think you should interpret your wife and her family as wanting your son to grow up within supportive…"

Abridged Debate: Matt Dillahunty VS Sye Ten Bruggencate

"Matt quoted Bertrand Russell "...the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt".  I had never heard that quote before but I sure can relate to it in my own life.  On so many issues or topics I find…"

No I do not respect your religious beliefs

"I agree and, furthermore, I do not respect religion's attempt to shape public policies to conform to those beliefs either.  Often those kinds of decisions are not based upon any sort of reasoning, logic or rationale whatsoever; just…"

"I just want to quickly apologize here if I may.  I did not realize that this was a link and responded earlier as though I were addressing the lady in the story directly.  My apologies; I should look closer at the discussion next…"

"Hello, Belle Yea, this age is so much fun and filled with surprises :)  They are away in the Caymans as we speak but I am getting updates every few hours and sounds like he is having fun In theory, I would be open to something more vanilla or…"

D. Brooks replied to Belle Rose's discussion 'Is rape an evolved mating adaptation?'
"There are trains of thought out there (yes, some professional) that state that rape is somewhat of an evolutionary anomaly; that despite laws, moral, communal and societal pressures, certain statistical occurences of rape are inevitable.  But…"

Raising our children as freethinkers

I will try to keep this brief (although I am known for being wordy) :)  My wife and I have a fantastic little boy who is just 4 years old and, as you can imagine, absorbs everything (language, mannerisms, stories, songs etc.) that surrounds him.  Because we love him so we both have kept our language clean, our tempers in check, our home feeling safe and secure and, above all, have been honest with him regarding what is real and what is pretend or make believe.  And, thankfully, he fully grasps…See More

Why are you here?
Always searching for intelligent but thought provoking discussions with free thinking people such as myself. Astounded that otherwise educated and successful people, capable of extraordinary accomplishments still find it possible to speak utter giberish for the sake of a faith or religious view. It's as though they choose to suspend all rational thought. I've never done this before but look forward to discussions with sober and clear thinking individuals. I hope that you welcome me. Cheers!

Why you left your religion.
It became clear to me that it was (or is) simply a perpetuation of man-made ideas and wishful thinking constructed to endure without question
