Cristynfaye replied to Karl Mugele's discussion 'Atheism isn't'
"You must not have ever been to Turkey, then.  When I was there, I had so many people tell me that they are atheists, but then in the next breath they'd tell me that I need to read the Koran because it holds the truth of the universe, and…"

Cristynfaye replied to Noel's discussion 'Athiest celebrating Christmas?'

Cristynfaye replied to Unseen's discussion 'What's so f***ing terrible about socialism, anyway?'
"Socialism doesn't ensure that everyone is wealthy and without need.  It can just ensure that everyone is healthy and educated, like Cara Coleen said.  And anyway, there are plenty of other ways that people can feel suffering and…"

Prayer is not the same as doing something.

"To be fair, when I was a Christian I was also very concerned with social justice, and just in helping people in need.  But in a lot of cases, there isn't much you can do to help people.  I've never had a lot of money or anything…"

Cristynfaye commented on Vince James Abernathy's blog post 'Christianity in the furture.'
"Well there might be more gay Christians because Christianity as a whole is becoming more accepting of homosexuality.  So maybe more people will convert, or people who are already Christians will come out of the closet."

You said in a comment on my blog that you "want to believe in God."

Why do you want to? (This is an earnest question.)

Hi Cris, thanks for the add! So you’re studying anthropology? Interesting: I’m a psychologist. Love to hear more about your husband’s process as well: pretty lonely in this part of my life. Recently read Why I Believed by former Bible translator/ missionary Kenneth Daniels; it’s the book that’s helped the most so far, in its gentle, devastating way: I find the strident atheists way too harsh, too disrespecting of the legitimate role religion plays in helping us deal with the reality of our fast-approaching Non-Existence. I don’t need to be mocked; I need to be understood. Anyway, hi to your husband as well; if he’s not here he could email me at dj@drjohnson.ca
