I'm an atheist, skeptic, and secular humanist (and animalist - I can't exclude my dog, even though HE thinks he's human). Having let go of any belief in the supernatural, I was jolted by the realization that critical thinking had ultimately transported me, in my early 50s, to minority status - and a mistrusted and misunderstood minority at that!
I'm the sole nonbeliever in my circle of family and friends (a mix of Baptists, spiritualists, deists). And living in the deep south bible belt, I'm surrounded by woo, from the "Have a blessed day!" of the store clerks to state-issued "In God We Trust" license plate stickers.
Why are you here?
I'd like to become more active in the atheist community, to meet like-minded woo-less people - especially in the Atlanta area, and possibly find others also interested in attending state/national conferences.
The religion you left

Why you left your religion.
I was spiritual, a garden variety pantheist always hoping for that proof or validation which never came. Over time, reflection, a confluence of events, and a series of epiphanies - combined with the increasingly visibility of atheists - thanks Hitch! - led me to view the supernatural in any form as woo. From there it was a natural progression to a broader form of skepticism.
