Five Stupid Things About Church

"@Peter Whitely I disagree with you about the hymns. The lyrics might not make the most sense, but in my opinion, church and religious music (especially more traditional Christmas carols) are very beautiful."

Clary Fernell commented on Tammy's blog post 'Work Raiders!!'
"That's rude of her and I don't blame you in the slightest. I'd have done the same thing. Once, while I was in the US, I saw a sign in front of a church that said 'God has a picture of you on his refrigerator'. Sometimes…"

Clary Fernell replied to Emily Russell's discussion 'Christmas'
"I like this idea quite a bit; as a Catholic, I also celebrate the Jesus bit, but I enjoy the various pagan traditions and general holiday spirit just as much, if not more, than the religious aspect. Although I must admit, Midnight Mass on Christmas…"

Clary Fernell replied to Emily Russell's discussion 'Christmas'
"I'm not a par tent, but I was recently told by a Jewish friend that Christmas is her favorite holiday, so I think it's more of a tradition and/or cultural thing for many non-Christian families. Even if you don't celebrate Christmas at…"

Clary Fernell replied to Keath Vickery's discussion 'I'm giving a speech on my Atheism soon. Need help'
"I won't be much help on this, but as long as you stay friendly and respectful of their beliefs and don't outright attack them, I think it should go smoothly. It would help, also, if you pointed out the strong points of atheism instead (or…"

Clary Fernell replied to Richmond's discussion 'Is the belief in Santa Harmful'
"I think that belief in Santa (or Low Tres Reyes, or Papa Noel, or whatever else you grew up with) is a harmless bit of holiday fun, so long as it isn't taken too far into adulthood. As a child, my imagination was very rich and I loved the idea…"

Clary Fernell replied to Keath Vickery's discussion 'I've been listening to Xian music recently. Just for fun'
"My family goes, as do most of the people I know. It's very social, at least at the cathedral that I go to. Also, it's a very old cathedral (built around 1100 AD) and it's quite soothing to sit in their and listen to the singing and…"

Hi Clary, welcome!

I was just thinking about how being Atheist at times isn't all that exciting. Although I have to say that it does allow for a great appreciation of how amazing life is from a different point of view. Makes me wonder about the myriads of planets that we will never get to see.

Anything in particular you are curious about? How people became Atheist? What people think of death? How did the world come to be? That kind of thing?
